Yoga Sûtra of Patañjali is an ancient Sanskrit manuscript on yoga.

Nothing else can be said about it with any degree of certainty. Who was Patañjali and when the text was composed and written down --- is unknown. It is not even certain that the text is indeed one text and not a collection of fragments composed by different authors.

Yoga tradition considers this text as one of the most important parts of Yoga Darçana. There are many interpretations of Yoga Sûtra -- both ancient and modern. Bibliography page has references to some of them.

I ventured to create a new interpretation because I could not understand existing ones. The interpretation of the first chapter --- Samâdhi Pâda --- can be viewed by using the links below.

The text of the interpretation is not an easy reading . If you are seriously interested in yoga, linguistics or reading Sanskrit manuscripts, then you might find it worth reading. Comments, criticism, error corrections and questions are welcomed. Please, tell me what you think about it by sending E-mail to dmitri@theasis.net
